The most popular style at the moment is the modern look, for which all you need to do is head down to your local kitchen store, and browse the various styles of metallic appliances. Once these are decided on, its time to go to the DIY store and buy some vibrant and bright coloured paints; white and cream go best with modern dark marble counters.

This style can be marginally adapted to create a European bistro look. The stylish appliances will still fit in well, but instead of the light coloured paint you will want to go for rich reds and gold. Faux plastering to add a bit of texture, as well as mosaic tiling on the work surface or walls also go really well here.

To finish off the bistro, install some cabinets that have a really rich finish of hardwood, or that are painted to fit in with the walls, and then for a really authentic look, a small blackboard looks great, and you can use it for a menu or shopping list. If the bistro look doesn't really appeal to you, but you still want something European, you can look into have a vineyard style.

Another popular kitchen style is the country look, which includes charms of the countryside such as floral patters, and traditional appliances, as well as some country accessories, like old tea and sugar pots. You can even mould this into a French style, as many French kitchens use this style. In terms of colour, you will need to use strong, natural looking colours, and also have some open fronted or glass covered counters, to bring the countryside indoors.
